Klein High School releases varsity football schedule

Klein High School released its varsity football schedule for the upcoming season.

Head coach Shane Hallmark will lean on his experienced student-athletes on offense to lead the Bearkats back from a sub-par season that saw it miss the Texas state playoffs in 2011.

There will be a big-game atmosphere feel when Klein begins its season against Katy High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at 71,000-seat Reliant Stadium, home of the National Football League's Houston Texans.

In its second and final non-district game of the season, the Bearkats will host Katy Taylor High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in its first of seven games to be played at Klein Memorial Stadium.

District 13 play will begin when Klein hosts Humble Atascocita High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14.

Week 4 will send the Bearkats to face Spring Westfield High School at Leonard George Stadium, in Spring, for what should be one of the tougher challenges for Klein this season. Westfield was a Division II quarterfinalist in 2011, falling to eventual state champion Dekaney High School.

The Bearkats will spend Weeks 5 to 7 at Klein Memorial Stadium, where it will host Spring High School at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29; play Klein Oak High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5; and welcome Klein Forest High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12.

Klein's final true road contest will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, when it travels to Turner Stadium, in Humble, to take on Humble Kingwood High School.

The Bearkat seniors will have a major challenge on their hands when they host defending state champion Spring Dekaney High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26.

The regular season and district play will wrap up in Week 10 for Klein when it meets Klein Collins High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.

Should the Bearkats qualify for postseason play, they will be well-rested after having a bye week the weekend of Nov. 9. The first round of the 5A Region II state playoffs is scheduled to begin the weekend of Nov. 16.

Klein plays its home games on artificial turf at the 8,500-seat Klein Memorial Stadium, located at Stuebner Airline at Louetta, in Klein.
