Cypress Creeks FACE Awards Scholarships to Deserving Youth
Cypress Creek’s Foundation for the Arts and Community Enrichment (FACE) has awarded four scholarships to music students who are attending the University of Houston Moores School of Music or Sam Houston State University. The 2012 recipients attending University of Houston Moores School are: Christopher Mauldin, a 2009 graduate of Spring High School majoring in applied piano and Karleigh Dansby, a 2009 graduate of Klein High School majoring in applied music focusing on the flute. Recipients from Sam Houston State University are: Bethany Lee, a 2009 graduate of Cypress Ridge High School majoring in music performance with focus on the clarinet and Rowina Torres, a 2008 graduate of Klein High School majoring in music education with focus on the violin.
“A wonderful outcome of the scholarship program is that it has helped to educate music students who have graduated and gone on to teach right here in our district,” said Nanci Decker, of Cypress Creek.
To qualify for the scholarship, the students must have graduated from Spring, Klein, Cy-Fair, Tomball or Magnolia high schools in the northwest Houston area and currently be enrolled full-time at either university. The award is $1,000 per student. The scholarships were announced at the Debby Boone concert May 5.
Over the past 14 seasons, FACE has awarded 51 scholarships totaling $51,000, with the annual music scholarship directly impacting local students. Other Focus on Education projects include the Klein Art Days program that provides all third-grade students in the Klein School District with a field trip featuring the performing, visual and literary arts; Family Series concerts; and four free children’s concerts each season.
