Elkins and Spring HS grads play well for Houston in loss
Elkins high school graduate Jonathan Davis and Spring high school graduate Dustin Fuerst played well, but Houston fell to Memphis, 11-0, in college baseball Saturday.
Davis went 3-for-3 and Fuerst struck out two batters in two innings of work.
Davis is a 2010 graduate of Elkins High School where he played baseball for Coach Richard Thistlewaite.
As a senior, 2009-2010, he was named to the all-greater Houston team, and Davis also earned all-district honors as a sophomore, 2007-2008. During his career at Elkins, he also garnered Under Armour all-region all-American recognition and was a Rawlings honorable mention all-American. Off the diamond, he was a member of the student council and accounting team at Elkins. Davis was recruited by Arkansas, Southern Miss and Mississippi before deciding to play at Houston, where he is an accounting major. Born Aug. 15, 1992, he is the son of DeWayne and Joy Davis.
Fuerst is a 2010 graduate of Spring High School where he was a two-year letterwinner at pitcher and third base for coach Doug Rush. As a senior, 2009-2010, Fuerst helped Spring advance to the third round of the state playoffs. He also ran for the cross country team at Spring. In the classroom, he graduated as an AP scholar.
Born May 22, 1992 in Tomball, Texas, he is son of Ken and Perry Fuerst.
