Northwest Assistance Ministries begins annual summer food drive
It all started for Northwest Assistance Ministries when the organization kicked off its summer food drive back in March.
Now, NAM is gearing up for the annual Survival Over the Summer food drive, which will help feed more than 5,000 area children during the coming months.
Individuals, groups, schools, businesses and congregations are asked to conduct food drives and fundraisers so that the pantry at NAM will be full.
"SOS is designed to help families whose children receive free or reduced-priced meals during the school year," said Carole Little, NAM's president and CEO, according to a news release. "When school isn't in session, many of these children go without nutritious meals."
The demand for food at NAM's food pantry has increased by approximately 30 percent each summer. SOS was designed by the organization to help meet this need.
