Sugar Land woman accuses Spring hospice of discrimination, retaliation

A Sugar Land woman is suing after, she says, her employer failed to provide reasonable accommodations for her disability.

Sugar Land resident Marion Nixon filed a lawsuit on Feb. 9 in Harris County District Court against Silverado Hospice of Houston, in Spring, citing discrimination and retaliation.

Nixon says on Jan. 14, 2011, Silverado, her employer, asked her to resign because of her disability and her two recent spinal surgeries. When she requested time to meet with her physician before making such a decision, Silverado fired her, according to the brief.

The suit alleges Silverado failed to offer Nixon reasonable accommodations for her disability.

Nixon is seeking damages, attorneys fees and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Houston attorney Stanley Santire.
