Klein's Murphy to play in World Series
Klein HS grad David Murphy is heading to the World Series with the Texas Rangers.
Murphy was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 2003 Amateur Draft. He was called up to the Major League by Red Sox in 2006. After bouncing around to a few teams, Murphy landed with the Rangers in 2007.
In the 2010 season, Murphy batted .291, hitting 12 home runs. He crossed the plate 54 times on 122 hits, tallying 65 RBIs.
So far this postseason, Murphy is batting .200, with 4 hits, 2 RBI, and 1 home run.
At Klein HS, Murphy was selected to the first team All-State and the first team All-District 15-5A. He was one of 11 players selected by the Texas Sports Writers Association for the TSWA All-State Team. Murphy was also selected to the YSN.com All-American team.
At Baylor, Murphy hit his first college home run, a grand slam, against the University of Houston. He finished his career at Baylor as an All-American and high prospect for the Amateur Draft, earning the 17th pick by the Red Sox.
The Texas Rangers will face the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on FOX.
