Spring grad helps Kingsville to victory

Spring High School 2007 grad Nate Poppell helped the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelina's edge out a 13-10 victory over Tarleton State on Saturday.

Poppell threw for 222 yards and ran for 30 yards. In the end, a Javelina's field goal clinched the win. Texas A&M Kingsville is now 7-1 for the season and 4-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

The junior quarterback is the son of Billy and Susan Poppell.

Poppell was a second team All-District 16-5A selection as a senior in 2006 after passing for over 1,600 yards at Spring High School. He was also a two-time second team All-District performer in baseball.

Texas A&M Kingsville will take on Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday, Oct. 30. Game time is set for 2 p.m. CST.
